NAI’s Got Talent: Meet Top Golfer Taylor Durham!

Here at NAI, we strive to support our team members to make the most of a career in commercial real estate (CRE) and to be able to bring their all to the job each and every day. Also important to us, however, is that the success those individuals achieve as CRE professionals extend into their passions in other areas of life as well.

And while it can certainly be hard to balance everything, some people seem to have it down to a “T.” Or, in the case of NAI Commercial Vancouver’s Taylor Durham, it might be more appropriate to say a “tee-off!”

Exceptional qualifications

Taylor’s been a keen golfer since he first discovered the sport at age ten. He then joined the Marine Drive Golf Club in his 20’s, quickly building a reputation as a talented amateur. So when the opportunity to take part in the B.C. Regional Qualifier came around earlier this May, he was poised and ready to hit the green.

At that event, Taylor played a phenomenal round of golf, finishing with a score of five under par to take the win (for those not familiar with golf terminology, that means he took five fewer shots than typically needed to finish the course – a challenging feat!) Even more impressively, Taylor beat more than 120 other competitors, including both amateur and professional golfers.

His win meant that he earned a highly coveted automatic spot in the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, one of the most prestigious events in professional golf.

Quoted in an article about Taylor, Golf Canada’s Director of Amateur Championships and Rules, Mary Beth McKenna, said of his achievement: “It’s not typical for an amateur to win one of these events, but it’s pretty special and a really unique way to get a spot in the championship.”

Best of the best

To give those “not in the golfing know” an idea of what a big deal this PGA event is; the Canadian Open has a rich history dating back to 1904 and has been won by some of the biggest names in professional golf including: Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Rory McIlroy.

So at this year’s Open, Taylor was facing off against some of the world’s top golfers, including fellow Canadian Nick Taylor who went on to take the win.

Durham had this to say about his experience of playing in the big leagues: “Just to have the chance to play in an event like the Canadian Open, standing side-by-side with some of the top professionals in the game – it really was a dream come true. I feel exceptionally blessed and I’m really happy for Nick Taylor as well – he’s the first Canadian champion since 1954. It’s an incredible achievement!”

For our part, we think Taylor’s own achievement deserves a heartfelt congratulations – especially as his accomplishment (of earning an exemption that fast-tracked him straight into the Canadian Open) is the first of its kind in Western Canada’s history.

Truly remarkable!

A memorable year… and more to come.

In addition to his exceptional golfing performance, we’d also like to take a moment to congratulate Taylor on his recent engagement and his ongoing performance as one of NAI Commercial Vancouver’s top “up and coming” CRE professionals.
Taylor, we couldn’t be more impressed with you! Thank you for being an inspiration to everyone in the NAI family, as you continue to pursue your passions and achieve your dreams!
